Full Moon Aries: 2 of Wands & 2 of Swords

Moon 3° Aries - 2 of Wands / Aries II / Mars in Aries

Sun  3°  Libra- 2 of Swords / Libra II / Moon in Libra

The Full Moon in Aries arrives on September 26th with the Moon at 3° Aries opposite the Sun at 3° Libra, illuminating one of astrology's most fundamental tensions: the self and the other.

The Moon falls in the first decan of Aries, corresponding with the Two of Wands and Mars in Aries, while the Sun illuminates the first decan of Libra, corresponding with the Two of Swords and the Moon in Libra.

I can't think of two cards that better illustrate the polarity of this Full Moon.

The Two of Swords is a card I often see when a decision exists, but someone isn't making it yet. Traditionally, the woman in the card sits blindfolded with two swords crossed in front of her. There is a sense of stalemate, avoidance, or weighing two possibilities without being willing or able to choose between them.

Its association with the Moon in Libra makes perfect sense. Libra can see both sides. The Moon introduces emotion, safety, and instinct into that process. Sometimes we remain undecided because making a choice means disappointing someone, disrupting a relationship, or giving up the security of keeping both possibilities available.

I've even seen this card appear when someone asks whether they'll receive a job opportunity. The answer may technically be yes. The offer comes, but they choose not to take it. Maybe the salary is too low. Maybe something doesn't feel aligned. The opportunity exists, but accepting it is another decision entirely.

Across the Full Moon sits the Two of Wands.

Associated with Mars in Aries, this card feels entirely different to me. There is direction, agency, ambition, and the willingness to decide what comes next.

Interestingly, I also frequently see the Two of Wands around partnerships that aren't necessarily romantic: friendships, business partners, collaborations, or two people considering what they can create together.

That creates the central question of this Full Moon:

Where have I been considering my options long enough?

Neptune is almost exactly conjunct the Aries Moon and opposing the Libra Sun, which can make that question considerably less straightforward. Neptune can blur boundaries, idealize situations, and make it difficult to distinguish between what we hope something could become and what it actually is.

This may be particularly relevant within relationships and friendships.

But something else is happening at the same time.

The Libra Sun is in harmonious relationship with Pluto in Aquarius and, more widely, Uranus in Gemini, while the Aries Moon also forms supportive aspects with these outer planets. The Moon's sextiles to Pluto and Uranus occur around the Full Moon itself.

All three air signs are represented through Libra, Gemini, and Aquarius.

To me, this creates an invitation to think differently about our relationships.

Maybe there are friendships, collaborations, communities, or relationships we've been uncertain about. Uranus introduces a perspective we haven't considered before. Pluto asks us to become more discerning about where we invest our social energy and reminds us that transformation sometimes includes separation.

Not every relationship has to be wrong for us to recognize that it is no longer where we want to spend our time.

But making those decisions can become complicated when emotions and old wounds enter the conversation.

Mars at 29° Cancer squares Chiron at 29° Aries around this Full Moon. Mars is traditionally in its fall in Cancer, and the final degree intensifies the sense that something has reached a threshold.

Cancer remembers.

It remembers who hurt us, where we felt unsafe, what happened in childhood, and what we've learned to do to protect ourselves.

Chiron in Aries can bring the wound back to identity: Who am I allowed to be? What happens when I choose myself?

Our emotions contain important information. But they don't always make the best decision-makers.

Sometimes the choice that is right for our future still makes us sad. Sometimes we can love someone and recognize that a relationship has completed its purpose. Sometimes choosing ourselves disappoints another person.

And sometimes keeping the peace is simply another form of avoiding the decision.

Venus moving through Scorpio adds another layer around attachment, intimacy, desire, and what we hold onto because letting go feels uncomfortable. Meanwhile, the nodal connections to Chiron suggest a broader symbolic theme of healing and direction.

This Full Moon doesn't necessarily ask us to choose isolation over relationship.

Aries and Libra need each other.

Libra asks: What do we need?

Aries asks: What do I need?

Wisdom may be knowing when each question deserves to lead.

The Two of Swords can sit at the crossroads indefinitely.

The Two of Wands eventually looks toward the horizon.

And perhaps the invitation of this Full Moon is recognizing that after we've considered every angle, listened to our emotions, examined our attachments, and imagined every possible outcome, there comes a moment when thinking about the choice is no longer the same thing as making it.

You don't need another option. You may simply need to choose.
