The Lunar Eclipse in Pisces arrives on August 27th with the Moon at 4° Pisces opposite the Sun at 4° Virgo. Because this is a lunar eclipse, I like to begin with the Moon and its decan card: the Eight of Cups, associated with Saturn in Pisces. Opposite it, the Sun activates the Eight of Pentacles, associated with the Sun in Virgo.

Together, these two Eights tell a story about what we do with the experiences we have outgrown.

The Eight of Cups is traditionally a card of walking away. A figure leaves eight cups behind and begins a journey into the unknown. In readings, I often see it around breakups, emotional departures, and situations where someone knows they need to leave even if they never receive the closure they wanted.

Its association with Saturn in Pisces adds another layer. Pisces is emotional, spiritual, intuitive, and often difficult to define. Saturn asks for maturity, boundaries, and lessons learned through experience. Sometimes the lesson is accepting that we may never fully understand why something happened. Sometimes closure is not something another person gives us. It is something we create for ourselves.

Across the eclipse, the Sun in Virgo activates the Eight of Pentacles, a card of mastery, repetition, and developing skill through experience.

This is where the eclipse becomes especially meaningful.

What if the things we have had to walk away from have also shaped what we know?

The Eight of Cups says: I lived through it.

The Eight of Pentacles says: I learned from it.

Our relationships, disappointments, mistakes, and endings can become part of the wisdom we eventually bring into our work, creativity, relationships, and spiritual practice. We do not have to romanticize what hurt us. But we can decide what we are going to do with what we learned.

Mercury is closely conjunct the Sun in Virgo, bringing language and awareness into the process. Something that once existed only as a feeling may finally become easier to understand or articulate.

At the same time, the Sun and Moon are both square Uranus in Gemini, creating a T-square. Uranus disrupts familiar thought patterns, while Gemini governs perception, language, and the stories we tell ourselves.

This can change the way we understand the past.

Maybe the story is no longer simply:

This happened to me.

Maybe it becomes:

This changed me.

And eventually:

This taught me something I can use.

Jupiter in Leo trine Saturn retrograde in Aries adds another layer around identity. Jupiter in Leo expands confidence and self-expression, while Saturn in Aries asks us to reconsider who we are becoming. The past can shape us without becoming our identity.

The longer-term connection between Uranus in Gemini, Neptune in Aries, and Pluto in Aquarius reinforces this process. Uranus changes the way we think. Neptune dissolves identities and beliefs we have outgrown. Pluto transforms our relationship to the future.

This eclipse asks us not only what we are leaving behind, but who we are becoming because we had the courage to leave it.

The Eight of Cups walks away.

The Eight of Pentacles returns to the workbench.

One releases.

The other creates.

The invitation of this Lunar Eclipse is to recognize when the lesson has already been received.

You can leave the experience behind without leaving the wisdom behind.

And sometimes, what we learn through the ending becomes part of the mastery we carry into everything that comes next.
